512Financial started with a simple observation. Growth-stage companies succeed or stall based on whether operational infrastructure can keep pace with what's working. We exist to close that gap.

Two operators, 

one persistent problem

Co-Founders, Bart Davis and Joel Trammell have spent their careers on the inside, working within the venture-backed companies trying to scale. Across dozens of companies, they watched the same pattern unfold: talented founders raised capital, built great products, then hit a wall when their financial and people infrastructure couldn't keep up.

The options available weren't good ones. Hire a full-time CFO before economics make sense. Outsource to a firm that treats every engagement as a transaction. Or improvise until something breaks, usually during a fundraise or an audit.

In 2022, they founded 512Financial to offer a better path: senior operators embedded inside growth-stage companies at fractional cost, with the institutional knowledge to scale alongside them. The name is a nod to Austin's area code, where the company was founded and where the team still operates.

What began as fractional finance has since grown into an integrated, fractional leadership firm, spanning six service lines across financial and people leadership, built through two strategic acquisitions and a founding team with Big 4 credentials, serial entrepreneur exits, and decades of experience inside the companies they now serve.

Founded 512Financial after 15+ years leading finance inside growth-stage companies, including CFO roles across multiple startups. Has since grown firm revenue 6x since 2022, including two acquisitions in 2025. Earlier in his career, he trained at PwC.

Joel Trammell
Chairman & Co-Founder

Serial entrepreneur with 30+ years building, scaling, and exiting private and public companies. Founded NetQoS ($200M exit to CA Technologies). Author of The Chief Executive Operating System and owner of Texas CEO Magazine.

Velveth Schmitz
Chief Revenue Officer

Former CEO of HireBetter with 20+ years helping growth-oriented companies scale through revenue leadership, executive partnerships, and intentional talent strategy. Dear Clients, Partners, and Future Teammates,

When I started this journey, it wasn’t because the world needed another services firm. It was because I kept seeing the same pattern inside growing companies. As businesses scale, the demands on finance, hiring, and internal operations start to change quickly. What worked at one stage starts to get stretched, and teams are asked to keep up with a business that is moving faster and becoming more complex.

Most of the time, it is not about effort or talent. It is simply a matter of the business outgrowing the way it was operating.

512Financial was built for that moment. We bring experienced operators into finance, accounting, and people functions to help companies move forward in a more structured and predictable way. The goal has always been to keep things practical. Step in, understand the business quickly, and help teams get back in front of it.

Just as important is the team we’ve built.

From the beginning, we have been intentional about creating a place where strong operators can do meaningful work and stay focused on it. We built our team with full-time, salaried professionals. That decision matters. It allows our people to focus on doing great work for the clients in front of them rather than worrying about what comes next.

We also believe culture has to be designed. Especially in a remote environment, it does not happen on its own. We invest in feedback, communication, and transparency so people understand what is happening in the business and where they stand. If we can share something, we do. If we say we are going to do something, we follow through.

That consistency builds trust internally and shows up in the way we serve our clients.
Today, we have supported more than 150 clients and grown to a team of 50+ people. We have been recognized by the Austin Business Journal as one of the Fastest Growing Companies and named a Best Place to Work three years running. We are proud of that, but more importantly we are proud of how we have gotten there.
